EXTERNAL FINISHINGS

We are finishing off the front of hour home over the next few weeks.
The Pillar sections above will have timber slatting infills.
This will help tie in the front doors, garage door and timber steps up to the front door.
We have purchased a semi mature white magnolia tree as our feature plant for the front planter box,
along with these will be some surrounding lower plants and grass type plants to line the path

This wall is now to be painted along with the front planter boxes but I am concerned the house will look a little drab and uninspiring so we are considering painting a darker colour (Nile Clay or Sea Elephant) or create some depth by adding something else.
Hubby was leaning towards one of my other suggestions being that we would paint the planter boxes in the darker colour but leave the wall in the same colour as the home.
Dulux Nile Clay
Dulux Warm Neutral is the colour of the home
Dulux Sea Elephant

Some feature framed timber slat panels like these.

Some decorative panels

What would you do or have you seen anything that may suit this next phase of our finishings.

Thursdays a few of my favourite things.

This weeks edition of  Thursdays a few of my favourite things...
Some of these images are just my favourites for their colour palette and others are for the style and
the above pic is because I love simple subtle ideas that make small wows in a room.
Did you catch the diamond patterned paint squares on the painted white timber floor above....subtle but so stylish.
OK there are way too many things to list that are just fabulous about this image but here goes
Rustic table and metal decor.....mixing textures and Elements you should know by now is my absolute favourite thing.....and who can't say know to fresh fruit and flowers on a table no matter what the setting
Both the above images are from here

Maybe a new way of displaying your fruit is with your very own labelled baskets. I love a textured way of showing fruit. From here

So did you ever wonder how to mix contemporary style with a rustic feel and make it feel oh so simple and effortless.

This is pure luxury, a pool in your living room.......What do you do with the splash?

This is just a purely stunning image of Asian pottery in a shop window and the beauty of overcrowding a window display through necessity but with the colour palette and style of each piece it doesn't matter, you can see about this image here

Now I have to leave you with another 1 of my most favourite things....my boy has a tea towel around his waist, a cut up sheet around his shoulders and a piece of non slip matting around his head and he thinks he is Batman. I love the imagination of children and how they can find enjoyment from the simplest of things.

MY AH HA MOMENT

I have just found out what my style is with a twist.......who would have thought it would have come this late into my life considering this is what I do for a living.
British West Indies Style
When I can look at an image of a house and fall in love and be able to identify with so many of the elements that make up this style.
It also captures a little of the Plantation or Savannah style.
To identify this style you will see the use of mahogany furnishings, tropical prints, bamboo and rattan, and such design elements as monkeys, palm trees, ticking stripes, leather and wicker.
Because the British travelled near and far during the Queen Victoria Era they collected and took with them their findings from The Caribbean to the Far East, India, Africa and even Hong Kong.
Hence the mixture of textures and finishes blended but with a slant on casual.
So now I understand my longing for wanting to travel and stay at The Raffles Singapore..

DON'T JUST STAIR AT THE WALLS

I am starting this post with a staircase image that has been in my file for years...its my favourite.
I love, that making the staircase a feature is so acceptable. It used to be that we would hide the staircase under a mountain of pictures or simply decorating the wall of the stairway rather than treating the stairs themselves as a feature.
The above image shows it could be as simple as making every other area so dramatic you can't help but notice this staircase for all its glory.
Here are some other ideas for your staircase.

Rugs
Wallpaper
Decals
Tiles
Painted
Feature Timber Treads

Ok so not something that makes the stairs a feature but some great under stair uses.

Storage drawers or shelves
Maybe a bed in small apartments
If Tv is not a big deal in your house this is a great way of hiding it.
I had to show you....I am on the fence about this one.....buzz words...cool, dangerous, clever.
Can you beat a simply stylish staircase with a nice feature on the wall....
Probably not, but at least we tried.
